Hi, there. I've been Q'ing ribs on my Weber gas grill for several years and the family likes them, but they didn't have the smoke taste I'm looking for. So, a smoker has been on my wish list. It didn't take much research to decide the WSM 18.5 is the smoker for me. I'll probably buy it in the next few weeks, so in the meantime, I'm doing my research.
 
Welcome Terry. Give the 22 another look. The 18 is great, but the 22 is all that (imho)
 
Hey Terry, you're just down the road from me, Welcome to the forum!
On occasion, decent used 18" WSMs can be found on Craig's List in Milwaukee and more in the northern Illinois.
 
Chuck - I'm sure the 22 would be a good way to go, but I think my budget is about max'd out with the 18. I may take Jim's advise, though, and check CL.

Terry welcome to the forum and like Jim said check out Craig's list, you can get some great deals for sure. Rich has gotton the last 4 from that list here in Prescott Ariz.
 
Welcome to the forum Terry. You will love the WSM whether you buy it new or from Craigslist. I got my Genesis 1000 redhead from Craigslist and we love it. Had to spend some money on it but it will last for a very long time. The WSM will give you so many more options than you have now. Enjoy!!!

Good to have another member from the Badger State here.

Like you, I started with a Gasser for the convenience - but after lurking here for a while, I took the plunge and picked-up a WSM about 3 years ago.
Until earlier this year, I have been "Bi-Grillular" (Weber Gasser / 18" WSM)
Now "Tri-Grillular" (Added Performer)

I still like my gasser for those times when something will not be on long enough for the Charcoal to add optimum flavor.
But on weekends / when I have (or MAKE) the time - I use the other ones

There's LOTS of excellent information & ideas / inspiration to be had here - Go for it! I'm sure that you'll enjoy it.
