Hello from the Desert!

Hello everyone! I'm Jeff from Chandler, Arizona. I'm new here, but not to BBQ. I was using a very cheap offset smoker for a few years with pretty good results, but it got damaged when I moved from Tempe to Chandler. I was out of the game for about four or five years, but now I am back!

I have a Weber Performer, Weber Smokey Mountain 22.5", and a Traeger Silverton 620 that I bought from Costco expecting to try it and return it, but was pleasantly surprised by how useful it is! I pretty much stopped cooking indoors, with my Traeger becoming my new oven, my Weber kettle my stove, and WSM for slow smokes.

I'm a history teacher by day, and a huge fan of Arizona State University athletics! I am an alumnus ('11, '12, '18) and love connecting with other Sun Devils! Prior to becoming an educator, I spent four years in the United States Army Band, where I was a guitar player (yes, that was my ACTUAL job). I had the fortunate experience of being stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany during my enlistment.

I don't feel like you can barbecue properly without Pink Floyd on full blast!

I look forward to participating in this awesome community!

Welcome to the X level of Dante’s hell, my brother feels the same about his Costco Traeger purchase, since he has suffered a stroke and managing a WSM is out of the question but the pellet pooper allows,my sister in law to be able to get the heat applied with more ease. I can see the value of them but, I’m still torn about using a gasser in a pinch!
I am a dyed in the wool charcoal guy, I mostly use the gasser as a warming oven for bigger parties! Tonight I’m spinning a chicken on it. Seems like it’s taking forever!
As a history prof another member and I have been enjoying the knowledge (mythological) of Hephaestus and I’m working on a little project in that direction.

Welcome, Jeff!

As a UCLA alum (from WAY before any of the years you listed....back when the Pac-12 was the Pac-10, except for baseball which was the Pac-6), I'll try to ignore the Sun Devil thing. :) I did, however, major in History, which has been so useful in my career as a high tech sales person! :)

Sounds like you have a nice grill lineup, and looking forward to seeing some of your great cooks!

My grad years are a little misleading... I graduated high school in 2000, and technically should have graduated with my undergrad in 2004. I was originally a music major, and then spent four years in the military, so my graduation was a little bit delayed!

GO SUN DEVILS!

Jeff Welcome. It's great to see another Arizona member come on board. Myself and my wife Barb are both members and really enjoy this forum, lots of great friendly people here and they are always willing to share their knowledge.
We live up in the high country in Prescott Valley where it's a little cooler. My daughter will soon be moving from California to Surprise so I guess we will have to get used to that dry heat down your way.
We have eight Weber's and a Camp Chef pellet grill, although we are down sizing to three Weber's and the Camp Chef.
Looking forward to seeing some of your cooks.
