Hi all, very nice site you have here. I am a newcomer to barbecuing and am pretty much learning everything from scratch from forums and blogs. Family never did any smoking and grilling amounted to well done T-bones once a month or whenever they were on sale at Wal-Mart. Sites like this have very literally taught me all I know about smoking and most of what I know about grilling. Thank you for sharing your sage wisdom with me and the rest of the internet.

I picked up a used 18.5 WSM on Monday, circa 1983 (E on the lid vent). It seems to be really well seasoned and taken care of- no rust, steel legs with casters, handles added to mid-section, lamp mod, clean grates. I'm planning on smoking a couple butts on Saturday and then a trial butterball on Sunday. Should be a good weekend.

Welcome aboard. Nice craigslist score. You came to the right place to learn from the experts. Look forward to photos of your cooks.

Hi There Nice to know what happened to Pappy's WSM - we call that keeping it in the family. Where in the Lou are you located? Reason I ask is so the other Redbird fans here can share the best laces to get stuff. In Brentwood at the intersection of Manchester and Brentwood Blvd is a butcher shop with a good selection of smoke wood - but I can't think of its name (duh) and at the same intersection is an Ace Hardware with a FINE BBQ selection.

Remember, its all about having fun. :wsm:
