Hello from Michigan!

Hi everyone,

My name is Chris. I came on here for research and advice. I started BBQing 4 years ago. Not having any mentors I taught myself via YouTube and reading up on articles. Being young and broke, I did not want to break the bank only to find out this hobby is too difficult or I do not like it. I ended up with the ECB, "El Cheapo Brinkmann" the Bass Pro one. I made modifications such as a vent on the lid, a real thermometer, a grate for the charcoal to rest on and sealed the lid with fireproof fireplace repair rope. After using this smoker every weekend in the spring/summer and some fall weekends and finding a flavor I like to use for spices, I decided it's time to move up.

This spring I want to buy a WSM medium or large size! Time to step up the game!

I'm from Southeast Michigan. I enjoy smoking chicken wings, ribs, pork butt, brisket and more but looking to try out new meats/cuts as well. Looking to possibly enter into some amateur BBQ competitions this season but have no clue where to start on that point. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can't wait for the weather to change!

-Chris

Welcome to the group Chris. Cold weather, mid 60's, may stop those Southern boys but us Northerners cook in just about any weather.
