Have you tried Pecan Hulls?

My F-I-L picked up a bag of these, cheap, at a local farmer's market.

I've heard that they're supposed to work good for poultry (the "Smoke Woods Guide" says good for Turkey).

If you have used them:

Q1. How much did you use?
Q2. What did you think of the results?

Ron,

Yes, you can use pecan shells. I'd recommend wrapping them tightly in foil and poking a few holes in the foil so they don't burn too fast. Quantity depends on the meat: for a single whole chicken, I'd use one fist sized bundle (see above). For a whole brisket; I'd use 3 or 4 fist sized bundles. The results should be about the same as pecan wood which I use regularly. I don't use the shells because pecan is readily available in my area.

I used pecan shells twice when grilling chicken with good results. Just tossed them onto the coals.

But, like Paul, pecan wood is plentiful here as my in-laws' neighborhood is about 90% pecan trees.

Squirrel meat is plentiful too if you're good with a pellet gun (they're within city limits).
