Handles

Does anyone know if the plastic handle grips that you can order from Weber will fit on the metal Brinkmann handel brackets?? I know I would have to drill a center hole in the Brinkmann bracket to attach the weber grips, but Im wondering if I would have to trim the inner grip to fit the 4 inch Brinkmann bracket. Im not worried about any "overhang" from the outer grip piece.

Welcome to the forum R!
The plastic Weber handles actually encases the metal handle. The metal handle cannot be larger than 4 3/8" or less than 4 1/16" x 5/8".
The bend of the metal handle is tight. The handle should not excede 1/8" in thickness.
The plastic Weber handle is comprised of two pieces. The bottom of the handle actually slides into the main portion of the handle, encasing the metal. The plastic handle is not forgiving as the old wood Weber handles, as far as size restrictions. In this photo above I made two metal handles from stainless. Scrapped a few before the correct bends fit perfectly.
Home Depot, Lowes and Ace Hareware stores in the state all carry the Weber plastic handle for 6+bucks.
Where in Wisconsin are you located?

Hey Jim. Thanks for the response. Im in the Elkhorn / Lake Geneva Area. I have an old Gourmet Charcoal Brinkmann and Im hoping to be able to use the handle brackets from that and the weber handle grips, If not I'll just use the brinkmann handles as they are. Im just weeks away from ordering the WSM so Im just thinking ahead for mods.

Im looking to purchase the 18 and maybe get that stainless steel door that some people were talking about, but I'll wait and see how the original door fits.

ya know ... I'm thinking of selling my 18" WSM... bought it last August... I could make ya a deal... and it's fitted with side handles and the stainless door with wheels and added nice things...

Thanks for the offer, but I prefer to buy it new. So whats your opinon on the SS door??? Does it fit better???

mine fits like a glove... contrary to many posts in this forum.
but then, I'm not to picky about losing a little smoke through small cracks here and there.
Nothing in this world is perfect.

You can also use the water pan from the Brinkmann Gourmet. And, the cooking grids can be laid on top of the WSM charcoal grate (for the 18-inch WSM) at right angles, allowing you to use lump charcoal without having the smaller pieces fall through.

I meant that You have WSM envy, by wanting the big'un.
Thanks for the offer though!
I've got the 18, and sometimes think I would like the 22 also/instead, but so far the little'un has handled my needs.
