Half a tri-tip

So I went to the butcher to try and get my hands on tri-tip. It's not a very usual cut in the UK but after seeing it so much on this forum really wanted to give it a go. Sadly they did not have a whole tri-tip in and to be honest didn't really bother trying to work it out which is a bit disappointing as they advertise themselves as whole animal butchers who can do you unusual cuts. Hmm.

Well I got myself half a tri-tip and to be fair it did look good and was enough for two. Seasoned up with salt and pepper and reverse seared on the Weber kettle to a nice medium rare. I was really impressed and I can see why it's so popular. Good little taste of smoke but not overpowering and the reverse sear meant it came out well. Will definitely do again though probably through ordering a whole piece online.

Served with Heston Blumenthal's triple cooked chips, broccoli and mushroom sauce. And a nice bottle of red of course.

Those Blumenthal chips are beauties!!

That's a great first attempt with the tri-tip! Reverse searing is a fantastic method to bring out its flavor. Consider trying rubs or marinades, or experimenting with grilling or smoking. Looking forward to hearing about your next tri-tip adventure!
