Gunna make a big change with my grilling set up.......

I think I already know what you guys are going to say. After my recent thread about a LX 210 or 240 or whatever that unicorn was I noticed that a few of you guys had LX's as your quick hitter grill......maybe the just for you and the wife grill. Well first I must admit that I am a horrible chef.....I really am. If it wasn't for my digital thermometer I wouldn't have a chance. My current set up is a Gen II 335 w sear and side. It is a beast and I have zero complaints other than its a large grill to heat up just for me and the wife. So the other part of my grill arsenal is a Weber Q 1200. I love the little Q and I find that I cook much better on the Q because it doesn't get raging hot like the 335. This helps me sneak up on my food vs thinking I am the Sear King! My only complaint about my Q is that the small camp bottles run out pretty quick and they are inconvenient to recycle correctly. Yes I could use a large tank but this grill is darn near new and has already blown out one regulator so I have been feeding it on baby the baby bottles that it was designed to work with. If I did the mod for it so i could use the large tank the grill on its rolling stand would not be mobile...and I do roll it in place when I grill so being mobile is important. Well I just picked up a Gen II 210? Its not a LX with the big honkin' tables and the lighted knobs just a base model which is fine by me. I am sadly thinking about kicking the Q off the team ( it pains me to even say that ) and replace it with the Gen II 210. The reason being I can use a large tank and be mobile with the grill. Its the perfect size for me and my wife and we rarely have cook outs....in fact I use my Q far more often then the 335. It has the modern burners which I love. It has a fold down table and wont take up much space. It matches the 335 for a cool combo. I think it will save me a bunch of propane using this 210 over my 335. I really don't even need the 335 but I am in the Weber hobby and must be able to pound my chest and show off a trophy grill to anyone who will listen. Last reason is that when I slide my cover over the Q sometimes I have accidentally rotated the gas knob......I walk out later to find that the darn thing has been leaking gas for 30 minutes....yikes! Scary. So I have the 210 almost complete...I will replace the rusty slats with Trex and it will be a sharp addition. I feel like I am cheating on my Q. I guess I was just talking out load but if I am wrong about this lil 210 replacing my Q please let me know before I get it dirty. I included a pic of my LX240 as well but I had to sell that one because it was a good money maker.

I was just out in the garage still pondering my decision. When comparing the 210 and the Q.....the Q is a much smaller cocoon. Will I still get a similar cooking experience with the 210? That small cocoon produces some real tasty chow.

Sounds like you really enjoy the Q. Keep it around until you are sure about the 210. The more, the merrier.

For the Q, you could try an 5lb tank. It works well on my Traveler. I rotate between a 5lb and a 20lb tank. The 5lb tank is significantly smaller than a 20lb tank. Lasts much longer than a 1lb bottle. My 5lb tank with built in fuel gauge cost $49.99 online at Costco and is a cheap $3 to fill at a nearby Costco that has LP refill service. Much less expensive over time than a 1lb baby bottle. Here’s a link:

I feel the Genesis is more eye candy than the Q’s, andI only say this having never cooked on Q. I know a couple guys with the 2 burner spirits, and they love them. I also know a lot of people on this forum speak so highly of the Q. Tough decision. So I agree with Mike. Keep them all!

Whoa! .....no Spirits will be in my mix. :) This Gen II 210 is a Spirit killer. I agree about the eye candy especially since this is the same year time frame as my 335 Gen II they will look cool side by side vs my bright lime green Q. But I will keep them all for a while. I will know quickly after a couple of cooks on the 210.....( Genesis ) :)

I put a Genesis LX S240 two burner in my stable and actually love the darn thing. I never thought I would, but it is a very capable grill with just two burners but it can get very hot and dials down real nice too. I don't even know what the grilling area is, but it is pretty darn good for a two burner. Certainly more than a Silver A. But more square shaped. The two N/S burners work real good for indirect and I have my old Genesis three burner for rotisserie cooks.

Yep I remember you saying you had one. The only reason I even need my 335 is for when I use my cast iron Weber skillets for veggies while cooking the protein on the other side

It has replaced even my Q220 as my daily driver. Although, I am in the process of converting that to NG. Once I do that, I will probably start using it more. Especially since it is on my back deck, just off the kitchen and that is convenient particularly in the winter.

I like my Genesis E330 for all my gas grilling needs. Never thought it was two hot unless I wanted it to be too hot. I suppose it's not very fuel efficient but it's not that bad either.

A baby Q would be handy for the occasional hot dog or burger cook, but TBH I'm not sure I'd want another gasser to maintain. If I had one I'd definitely set it up for a 5 lb or 20 lb tank.

I wasn’t intending to insult you as if you’d own a spirit! 🤣 just the only two burner rigs I’ve seen in action are spirits!

Sounds like you're set up will be similar to mine at my Washington place with my Genesis ii LX 240 and LX 340 combo. I just took a side table off my 340 and push them together. I had a LX 440 for a while but sold it cuz I'm just not into grills that big. I will pick up at least one more LX 240 if I get the opportunity and maybe another LX340.

I totally understand your logic. Also I think that if Alot of people tried a 210 or 240 they would understand that most of the time this is all you need for a small family. I can even cook extra large pizzas from scratch on a 16-in pan easily with room to spare. The 240 with two High+Sear burners sounds like a jet engine and heats up super fast. At my place in Arizona I'm working on an old school version of this with her Genesis 1000 and Genesis Jr.

I wish I could have bought that LX240 off of you. They're getting harder to find.

I’d grab a roadside freebie Silver A or B for the frame only and put a flat wood surface top of some type on it. You can put the Q right on there with the 20lb tank mod. It’s an extremely mobile setup and you’d have a specific place for the tank with the already built in hanger / scale.

I liked the 2 burner Genesis except the rotisserie was mounted so low I had to have the right shelf in the folded position. What I don't get is why you would have to mode the Q to use a 20lb tank as a $12 simple hose is all you need?

I've tried a few of those hoses on a few different Q grills with no success but maybe that's because the stock regulators are crap. I believe @LMichaels has had similar experiences.

Actually now that I think about it I had success with one Q grill after I replace the regulator with an aftermarket one.

For me it's just easier to do Q regulator delete. I have plenty of full size BBQ regulator hoses around.

Joe, you are right. The main reason to do the regulator delete on a Q is to "replace" it. The Q built in regulators tend to fail easier than those on regular grills and they are fairly expensive to replace with OEM ones. There may be other personal preferences leading to people replacing them as well, but that would probably be the main one.

Using the adapter hose generally works fine and allows the grill to still be used with the 1lb tanks.
