Guitar for the wife

My has been asking for a guitar this last few months.
I never saw anything that talked to me so I put this off until the other day when I picked up her new guitar.

It’s a 50 plus year old Yamaha Folk guitar FG-110.
It sounds amazing for what it is and was priced right,

She doesn’t play the guitar but jams pretty good on the piano.
We have a lot of musically inclined friends so we do a lot of music here.

Anyhow she is by picking me up from the airport and doesn’t know about it yet.

How many of you play?

A red label, very nice, I'm sure your wife will be thrilled

I'm sure you remember Campana Music in Lafayette? Two buildings down from it was the old Fire Station One, where my dad first worked as a Fire Fighter and I often stayed there as a kid, because my mom couldn't stand me. (They now call it postpartum depression, but that was unheard of back in the day) Anyway, as a kid I fished the creek that ran behind Campana Music, and when I wasn't fishing, I was often in the store listening to the various customers test and play the various instruments. I did take lessons there from about the 6th grade thru the 9th grade, but the devil's lettuce complicated my learning abilities :)

Sorry to steal the thread, but it reminded me of a day gone by, thanks for that :)

Played until my hands were too crippled up. Between arthritis, various injuries from my auto repair days and a shoulder replacement, manual dexterity is almost a thing of the past.

FG-110 Yamaha guitars are fantastic for the price, “back in the day” I probably sold fifty of them. All the basic ones were fabulous.that is a great gift! The big “dreadnaught” (I think it was a 160) model was a great bluegrass guitar, and they were all very consistent! I knew road guys that said if they had to “borrow” one while being out on the road, they were almost identical in sound and playability! I miss those days!
Sold guitars right out of high school, very cool little shop, between customers, we’d play euchre or make music! Fifty years later, I still have the mandolin I bought the first summer! And the Guild D-25M bought a couple of years after that.
Still play a little with the boys now and then. We have all gotten caught up with “Life” so, we don’t pick like we used to. There was a time when we rehearsed two nights and played at a saloon two to four nights a week! Young and full of juice, those were the days!

I have 3 guitars though playing is FAR more laborious than days gone by. Thanks to a left hand not actually doing what it used to thanks to nerve injuries in my neck. Likely related I recently found out, to a bad car wreck I was in (hit from behind) 50+ years ago come back to haunt me.
I have a Martin D12-28 I bought brand new in 1974, I also have a Sigma Martin replica of a Martin D35, and a Seagull S12 12 string.

I used to have a Yamaha trumpet when I was a kid and have always thought Yamaha was a decent product.

Chuck I grew up in Lafayette and know it well.
I’m very familiar with Campana music and hung around the creek when I was young.

I’ve owned some nice guitars for 18 years or so. I’m terrible, certainly have put in some effort over the years.

I do have a couple real nice Gibsons and Martins, haven’t seen them since the house fire, I am hoping they are ok. They were cleaned and stored I should have them back in a few months.

I hope she loves the gift Andy. Very cool.
