Got myself a new toy

I was at my local BBQ shop today, with a gift card that was burning a hole in my pocket. I‘m stocked up on charcoal and BBQ accessories and was starting to lose hope that I’d find anything worth while. I walked past the Weber section and noticed a few boxes on a pallet that had not been put out on to the display yet. Then something caught my eye… portable grills for camping, a day at the beach or the park. I remembered my father in law gave us an old, beat up propane model that had rusted through the bottom, and probably hadn’t seen the light of day in about 10 years. So I figured it was time to upgrade my portable grill game, while sticking with being able to use charcoal. I decided on a new Go Anywhere. I had watched a few videos some time back and remembered how versatile it was, not only for grilling, but for storing utensils and the like. Isn’t she a beauty?

There is another YouTube guy that does a pretty serious ATC set up that is battery powered and fits in a .30 cal plastic ammo box! That struck me as pure genius for a small beach picnic! I’m sure he’s posted here but, I’m too lazy to search it!🤣
Hey, at least I’m honest!
If I was thirty years younger, I’d do a set up like that for the beach! I don’t spend that much time there anymore. I can’t take the sun like I used to.

Now that is a great pick up! I didn’t realize the bars on the sides were dampers at first. I love this thing even more now!
Yah - you can do indirect cooking on it. Very versatile for a small grill. I was looking at a PK-Go and this scratched my itch at a much better price!

I have the gas and charcoal versions of the Go Anywhere. Awesome grills. Perfect for the camper, for us. For my charcoal version I cut the grate in half and can store my small chimney in it for travel. My Dad grilled all the time when I was a kid and he used the old hibachi style tabletop grill.

I love using my GA because it reminds me of those days as a kid when I loved my Dad's grilling than just about anything else.

Thats what we had also. They really need to make them with lids IMHO. I think they would be much more versatile cookers.

If by firebox you mean bread pan then yes the holes were drilled. I did the same with mine.
Joe and Eric, thank you. What drill bits do you use to get through the bread pan or the lid for the thermometer? I've got a drill bits for making holes in ceramic pots but will it work on metal?

I used a step bit from HF for the bread pan. I put holes in the bottom and 1 side, but thinking about it, you should be able to just cut out the bottom of the pan as it does sit on grates. I have not done the thermometer yet (procrastinating), but use painters tape and 1/4" bit. I have just been sticking a probe through the vent in the lid. But I have the thermometer and should install it one of these days.

Decided to break mine in the other day and cooked a few dogs for my kids, at their request. 4 Weber briquettes and 6 hotdogs. Easy as anything I’ver ever made. I think next time I‘d add 4 more the other side and line up the hotdogs in the centre. Either way, this experiment was a tasty one.

I usually use quite a bit more charcoal (maybe 12- 15) and cook the dogs directly over them. Way faster and I like them to split or sometimes I spiral cut them before putting on. Then I close all the vents and save the unused coal for the next burn.
