Good find? How did I do for $45?

If I can't come up with anything else for the flame check, I assume I can always just bypass it and then find a 1000 control panel without the flame check hole. If I can find a way to leave the button there in the right place but non functional then that will work too. Either way it doesn't seem like a huge concern.

It tells you how to disable it.
Yes, I've read that and some of the other threads on it as well. Once I take it apart I'll probably understand more, but it sounds like everyone is suggesting simply removing the flame check valve and connecting the supply hose directly to the manifold. That's all fine, but then it leaves the hole in the control panel from the button. One thread somewhere said "Just leave the button in the control panel hole for looks" - I think that means it would just be the loose button, not supported or anything, just hanging there in the hole. Not sure if I like that idea or not. I suppose I could rig something up to hold the button up so it looks more like it should (without functioning, obviously). We'll see how it all goes once I start disassembling it, which I unfortunately probably won't get to until next week.

Got it, well I''m pretty sure there are folks on the board that have an extra Genesis 1000 control panel lying around in their spare parts bin that can sell or donate one to you if you decide to go that route.

It's a shame, really - it would be nice to leave it "as designed", and maybe I could even adapt some parts from something else to make it work the same, assuming this one doesn't (the link you posted earlier mentioned marine gas ranges, and older-style water heaters with a pilot light also have the same type of function).

But, the actual function of the device sounds really irritating. Always having to have the front burner on - even if you just want to use the side burner. I think I'd rather not have to deal with that, so that leaves bypassing it and finding a solution to the cosmetic issue.

Real nice score and interesting piece Dave, should have some fun with it. Keep us posted on the progress. Love those doors.

First off you got a steal there. Now go to confession and tell your sin to the priest LOL. Second if the flame check button on this is working WHY disable it?! Having one is an excellent idea. The other day I wish I had one. I was spinning some chicken and turned the Genesis to low. Wind was just honking and I hadn't noticed until I walked back out on the deck that I could smell gas. If the FC works I say leave it, It's a great safety device. So good I am amazed that the bureaucrats in DC haven't mandated it on every gas grill sold in the US

If it's still working (which seems like a big "if"), I'll definitely give it a go for a while before I do anything else with it.

I've personally never had a grill flame out on me so on the surface it doesn't seem particularly useful, but obviously that's not statistically significant and if someday it does happen I might appreciate having it.

I guess I almost always have the front burner running anyway, so it may not be as big of a hassle as it initially sounds.

I would just disable it per the link Sam posted and leave the button there it would not bother me might bother you. Not like your going to do anything with the button anyway it would be a pain for me to always have the front burner on since when I do indirect that is where I place what I am cooking.

I passed on one of these about 7 months ago and as the article mentions using a brick the description for the grill had a picture of a brick on the panel and said it worked fine but you needed to use a brick to get it lit at least they were honest.
