Goo trickling out

Hi everybody. I tried searching but didn't see too many threads that mentioned the goo... On some smokes, a bit of goo comes out from under the thermo, the latch handle, and the lower vents. Is this normal? I was not oversmoking... the most recent time, I was smoking some spares and used two chunks of Weber apple wood. I do use water in the pan, for now. I have only 5 smokes total, and the goo has appeared on three or four out of five. However, I have used a consistent amount of wood, water, etc. Using Kingsford blue. Just wondering if this is normal. Is it temperature related? All of my smokes have been between 20-45 degrees F outside temp. Thanks.

Marcus, I would bet the water has something to do with the goo. Use the goo as a flavor for your sauce, yum. Just kidding! Or it's just your WSM's way of saying thank you for using me, it's crying with joy inside.....

I'm gonna agree with Mark. I have had some stuff on the last cook and I think steam was being created because of the cold temps. If you use water in the pan, you are probably steaming a little and sort of cleaning the inside and it runs out. No biggie. Some folks that wish their WSM was more air tight might want to buy some of that goo to seal theirs up a bit!

I also think that the cold temps and steam may be the culprit, Have used my new WSM 6X so far 3 with water 3 without and only once has the temp outside been higher than 30* and the 3 times I have used water in the pan about 2 hours after I put the meat on I noticed it to from just under the thermometer.

As you cook more and more, the "goo" will make your WSM more airtight. This is a good thing and will help control the temps. Keep on cookin',bro!

Thanks everyone! Glad to hear me and the WSM are normal... A normal life change for the WSM... Chris, sorry I missed that in the FAQ, thanks for the link. Loving the WSM, so far I have smoked ribs, beef jerky, pork butt, and bacon... really fun. Take care everone and thanks for the replies.
