Genesis wood slat screw holes

I did an expeditious restoration on my Genesis and my wood slats are poking my OCD. Are the screws mounted on center of the wood slats or are they offset on all slats? Does anyone have a correct offset measurement?

I used 2" nominal 1.5" actual cedar strips for my slats. The end pieces were aligned with the end of the Z brackets. All others were centered. The spacing between all inboard slats are even, but the end slats and inboard slats are off. I hope this makes sense!

You have to do some math and trial and error to get them to all space properly when you replace the slats.

Here is a method I used on them. I made up all my slats and then laid them all side by side and measured them. Then, I measured what the distance from the left to right should be when they are all installed. I subtracted and that is the width of the total spacing. Then I divided that by the number of gaps between the slats and that should be your gap +/-. Next, I grabbed a socket wrench (can be any object) that had a handle very close or slightly smaller to that size. Then I laid the slats out and placed the wrench handle between each one. If it works out that they come to the right width over all, that is great, if they come up not quite wide enough, that is fine. I just wrapped a layer or two of electrical tape around the handle and then redid the layout. When they came to the correct overall width, I then marked them, drilled them and mounted them.

It seems kind of complicated, but it worked for me to get even spacing on the slats.

Getting the spacing right is a bit of a pain. The upper tables are a little easier because the outer slats fit right to the edge of the z bar and you just have to figure the rest of them out. The lower ones are a lot harder because if you don't get the spacing right, the two slats on the end of each table are right next to each other. While that's not the end of the world, it doesn't look right.

Use something to space the appropriate number of slats. I.E. say a few pennies. Ex, put 3 pennies top and bottom, between slats. Assume it takes 6 slats. Space them using the spacers. Then perhaps duct tape them together like a raft. Lay that on the Z Bars and fasten them in. EZPZ
