Genesis Platinum B/C

I wasn't even considering using the kettles for cooking, but his yard would look awesome with a few color coordinated kettles added to the mix.

It might even inspire a new Dr. Seuss book

One Grill, Two Grill, Red Grill, Blue Grill
Black Grill, Green Grill, Old Grill, New Grill
This one cooks with gas
This one cooks with coal
Say ! What a lot of Weber's there are !
I’ll tell you what my mama told me…”Find a nice grill and settle down”. I didn’t listen.

One thing I noticed today on the Blue Silver lid is that back lip catches when opening closing against the back of the cook box. Are the cook boxes different between the Platinum and Silver grills. I know they have different part no and are different in color. I have never encountered this issue with a Square body lid only this Curved body lid.
Looks like I might have to swap the cook boxes as well to remedy this issue.

I put back the Blue Silver lid back on the Silver B cook box to confirm and there is a difference. So in order to make this swap work I will also have to swap the cook boxes for the Silver B lid does not work with the this Platinum cook box.

That's pretty weird. I'm not an expert on the subject but I always thought the cook boxes were physically the same between the silver/ gold/ and Platinum grills.

Tomorrow I will try the lid on my other Platinum grill and see if the result is the same. I wonder also if when I put on the SS lid handle and reassembled the lid if I shifted shroud on the end caps.

That actually makes more sense to me as the problem. I do know from taking apart and reassembling the stainless steel lids from my recent Genesis Gold restorations that you have to be mindful of the position of the end caps on the lid before you tighten them down. Add in a handle that doesn't really belong on that lid and I can easily see a potential problem.

Is it on the very corners/ends of the cookbox, where the aluminum kind of raises up next to the lid pin tabs?

I ran into that on a newer silver B cookbox when I put a green lid off a 1000 on it. It was catching ever so slightly. I ended up filing it down maybe 1/8” on both sides and matched the bevels side to side.

Cody,
If I remember correctly, it looked like it was catching in the back middle of the cook box.
That is kind of crazy.

I would take the lid off, lay it down on a firm surface so it’s sitting on the end caps, and loosen the end cap hardware on both sides. Push down on the lid so it’s resting against the end caps and the tighten them back up.

I noticed once when installing the end caps on a blanket that there was a sizable gap between them. Sure enough when I did it on a firm surface (with cardboard down to protect the painted end caps when I broke the lat bolt loose, the lid “fell” a noticeable amount.

When I put on the SS handle l only removed the right lid end cap and put it back on when I was done. So I removed the right end cap and reseated it and nogo. So I then removed the left end cap and reseated and it fixed the issue. Somehow in the process the shroud shifted since the mounting holes in the shroud are a little longated. Thanks Cody, it is fixed now. I did not think it had this issue before I replaced the handle.
