Genesis Gold Part 2

Ok, I just brought home my second Gold C and it's in a lot tougher shape than the previous one. A couple lowlights are the fact that I just left the big drip tray there because it was that bad. The cook box is also slightly bowed out in the front so I guess I'll probably demonstrate how I fix that at some point. I'm sure there's some more bad news but I'm going to go ahead and try to make it a nice grill again. I did get a propane tank with it, so there's that 😉IMG_20250408_162940705.jpg

Oh boy! I’m getting my popcorn and settling in for this one. I’m not a fan of the Gold’s to begin with and It’s already showing some very familiar signs of being a classic “snowball” project. Will Steve be able to impose his will and attention to detail upon it? Or will the crusty critter break a good man? Stay tuned, folks. I, for one, am cheering you on. Go get ‘em, tiger!

The serial number was very faded and I wiped it off completely in an attempt to read it better. I want to say it was a DD code, which would be 2000. My second choice is DU, 2002. Does anybody know when they started making this model?

You could look at the bottom of the cook box and hopefully you can read the date stamp on that. It won't tell you the age of the over all grill, but it will tell you the month/year that the cook box was manufactured. If it is a 2001 or later stamp, then your grill is probably 2002. They commonly make cook boxes in batches and used them over a span of several years. The end caps probably have stamps as well and the same holds.

It's already apparent that this is going to be like a Genesis 1000 rebuild, a real pain in the ***. I'm positive this grill has spent it's entire life outside in the fine Midwest weather.

Your Gold has that locking bottom rack. I think those started on the later Silver/Gold B/C grills. So, yours is probably not 2000. The early ones had the left to right cross members with a drop in rack.

I'll get around to doing that. I was almost positive it said DD, which is 2000. I just didn't think they made this model then. I'm still learning new things here since I'm not used to playing around with these things like you are.
