Genesis 1000 Manifold - Add Side Burner?

This is probably a stupid question and I’m probably over-complicating it, but wanted to ask here first before (hopefully not) wasting time on my own.

I have a Genesis 3000 NG, which I need to be LP.
My plan was to use a Genesis 1000 manifold.

The 1000 looks to have a plug where I’m thinking I can remove the plug and screw in the side burner connection from the 3000 NG manifold.

But then I noticed they are “flip flopped” between the 3000 and 1000 manifold; the 3000 side burner connection is on the left, and the NG Hose is on the right.
Whereas the 1000 manifold has the Regulator Hose on the left and the plug (hopefully for the side burner?) on the right.

Is it as simple as disconnecting all the hoses and re-threading everything where I need them to be?
i.e. - Genesis 1000 Manifold with a side burner connection on the left (because of the existing hose length) and move the LP Regulator to the right (where the “plug” currently is)?

Thanks and sorry if this is confusing.
Yes I’m aware of the condition of the 1000 manifold, I plan to sand and paint it.

I think you are asking if you can move the gas/regulator hose to the other port with the plug and the install the hose for the side burner where the regulator hose was. Yes, you should have no problem doing that. Just use some tape or pipe dope on the connections. I recommend pipe dope. Yellow #5 is what you want for pipe dope.

Here is a link. It is available at any hardware or big box store as well.

Isn't the valve on the side burner meant to be used with NG? Can you just plug the side burner in to the manifold and use LP? Asking the question , don't know the answer.

The side burner is set up to use the same fuel as the grill unless something has been changed. But yes, you need to to connect the side burner to the manifold.

Short answer: yes, you can, but there are considerations.

LPG has roughly 1.5 times the latent BTU/h ( ability to produce heat ) as NG. LPG ialso operates at over 1.5 times the gas pressure of NG. So you have a "hotter" gas at higher pressure when converting NG to LPG. As you might imagine, an orifice change is required to limit the maximum amount of gas avaiable at maxjmum flow, but you also need to lower the amount of gas flow at the lower end of things to regulate the heat output at the low burner setting. You can't do the latter with the valves we have from Weber. Also, the internal passages of the valves were not designed for dual fuel use. Will it work with a simple orifice change? Yes, but only at maximum output. The range of adjustment, from low to high, will suffer, bacause the valve can't be adjusted for minimum ouput.

I never considered this…good point.

I guess I’ll just remove the side burner and drop in a Durawood Side Table there instead.

FWIW the side burner valves will work with either. ALl you have to do is change the metering orifice for the side burner
So are you saying that if I just replace the orifice only with a LP side burner orifice it will function correctly? So the Side Burner valves are the same between NG and LP with only a different orifice?

I have it disassembled to this point:

Well that’s cool. I’ve got many of those. That just made my day! One of them I’m concerned isn’t going to want to come apart though. If I think of it tomorrow I’ll start the penetrating oil soak lol
The orifices come off of the valves quite easily with the appropriately sized socket and wrench. You won't have to soak anything.

I had a bunch of liquid propane, side, burner or offices from newer style valves, but it looks like these older model grills have a larger thread size.

Does anyone know where I could get a liquid propane orifice for these older models? Here is the natural gas one that I just pulled out.
