Genesis 1000 Dimensions

After 15 years of charcoal, it looks like I'll be purchasing an Genesis 1000. The plan is to pick it up this Sunday. Does anyone have a "rough" idea of how big this critter is? Specifically how high is it with the lid on and the lid off. Close counts folks. I'd like to know if it will fit in the back of the wagon.

As Always.... Thanks,
Rolf

PS - Yes, photos to follow once I get it home.

Not assembled it wont. You'll want to take the lid off and maybe even separate the the grill body from the cart. Though the one bolt on the left side of the grill can be a real PIA and usually breaks off. Overall not hard to do maybe 5 minute job total. Than the cart is very light and easy to handle and the grill itself much easier to handle. If you have a full size van though or large minivan (i.e. grand caravan, honda odyssey, or that class) you could just take the top off and it'll fit. But in an SUV it'll be tough. You'll have to lay it down or truly separate it as I described

Thanks for the quick response. I was planning removing the lid. If anyone could just measure the height without the lid, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Well Chris it looks like I own a Genesis 1000LX in green. The flavorizer bars, grates, (both porcelain), and burners were replaced about two years ago. It has virtually no rust but will definitely benefit from a power wash. One control knob is broken and the tank hanger could use replacing. While I'm cranked about owning this, work on it will probably have to wait for spring. Right now I'll probably order a cover for it. The previous owner had it under a covered patio and I don't have that luxury. Now where to put it. With a Performer, three kettles and a WSM, things are getting crowded.

Rolf, I also have a 1999 green 1000 LX I bought new, great grill! I've also have restored a few and flipped them. I have a few spare parts some of which are a few spare knobs. So if you want a replacement knob PM me your address and I'll send you one.

Rich thanks so much for your very kind offer. If mine turns out even half as nice as yours, I'll be very happy.

Do you guys ever use these things! :) Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

No, I don't, Well not much anyway, if you look at the picture you can see the rotisserie sticking out. With a E320 and a Ducane three burner the greenie is pretty much used for roti work now, although that's just in the last year.
It was used a lot before the performers and the E320. It just a testament to Weber's products if you take good care of them they will last a lifetime. When not in use all my grills and smokers are covered and after every cook they get a complete cleaning. Since I bought it new in 1999 the only thing replaced have been the flavorizer bars.
I really does pay to take care of them.

Well it's done. A few bumps along the way but worth it. A special thanks to Rich Dahl for his sage like advice through all this. It won't get used very much as I REALLY love grilling with charcoal. On the other hand, I can see it as a nice tool to have when needed.

Nice job Rolf, looks terrific. You may find you use it more than you think. For a quick cook, say a couple of burgers sometimes it's not worth waiting for coals and burning a bunch of them for a 5 minute cook.

^^^^^^ +1 on that Rich. I like my Kettle, when I can relax and have the time, Its a ritual and produces some of the best grilled fare there is; but screaming in at the end of the day with little time and a big hunger, that gasser can be ready for steaks, chops or burgers in 10-12 mins @ about 600 deg. and does a very respectable job :-). Nice work on the restore Rolf! You're gonna love that grill!!!

Great cooking patio!
I use my gasser a lot for finishing / reheating.
When cooking butts or ribs I cook several, pull off before completely done vacuum seal & freeze.
When I want some ribs or a butt just defrost & finish on grill
