Wow this stuff sparks like the 4th of july.

Save some of the leftover unburned lump to use in the chimney for your next cook. That will eliminate nearly all the sparking.
 
Yeah, I almost burned my eye out using that stuff. It sparked and popped really bad. One big pop sent a hot piece right at my eye. Luckily I closed it and only burned my eyelid. Other than that it seemed ok!
 
Yea I know what you mean I have used several types of lump but none with this much sparking. Cooks ok not a lot of unburrned left I mainly use lump for grilling but will use it in the smoker with no complaints.
