Today I picked up a free Genesis 1000 Redhead being given away on FB Marketplace. Here are some shots:

After taking the shelves off, lid off and loading in my car I was off to home for a closer inspection.

I did some preliminary test cleaning with Simple Green and 0000 steel wool. The lid looks pretty good along with the frame. Unfortunately I am pretty sure there is bad fading on the control panel. Not sure what to do about that. With the exception of a bad looking control panel, the grill looks pretty good. It will take some real work finishing all the wood but don't know what can be done about the control panel. Never seen one faded like this. Any thoughts out there?20251021_160020.jpg20251021_155938.jpg20251021_155928.jpg20251021_160044.jpg

Great pickup for free. It's unfortunate that the control panel is shot, but it happens a lot and there's nothing you can do about it. I have had some luck finding decent ones on eBay.

I hadn't thought of Ebay for a control panel, thanks Steve!
Only thing there is that some of the sellers aren't always right about what grill they are for, so you have to look at the pictures pretty carefully to make sure it's not an early Silver B control panel.

That panel is pretty far gone, but I have had some decent luck with this product. It is not a miracle solution, but it does work better than any other remedy I have tried. On a minor fade situation it can totally eliminate the fade. In a case like yours it probably cannot, but it will look a lot better.

Look for the number in the lower left hand corner. I believe 8006 is the number for a Genesis 1000 control panel.

Yup. and older control panels without a number in the lower left corner will likely work too. From what I've observed, the 8006 number showed up around 1992, maybe 1991. The CP from an 89, maybe 90 Genesis 2 has no number and one from what I think is a 1991 has no number.

Thanks Jon! I'm interested in trying it out.

It's really meant for powder coated surfaces and the like. Might do wonders for my Big Z. Though something that shines that big thing right up is I clean it down really well usually with ammonia and then spray it down with non-stick cooking spray and buff it in. Works great
