Found Free Silver B

A couple of things I remember about sodium hydroxide from college chemistry...the stuff we used was small white pellets in a sealed glass container and if you let it sit out uncovered, it would "melt" by pulling moisture out of the air (hygroscopic). It has a slick, greasy kind of feel to it and takes forever to wash off your skin completely. Nasty stuff. The Sam's stuff is probably watered down, but please, protect yourself. Chemical burns are not pleasant.

I've gotten the Member's Mark cleaner on my skin. No burns (likely because I was lucky and or got to water fast enough) but it sure as hell did not feel good and is VERY hard to get off. So, yeppirs always use protection because it's "nasty :poop: :poop: " But, it sure does a nice job!

Thanks for the tip on cleaning the tables, Bruce. They cleaned up as well as could be expected from being out in what may have been the Florida heat. I am not sure what I am going to do with the platinum end trim pieces they are very weathered I picked those in case I ever found use for them. I am thinking I may sand them since they are already showing their age. Have you ever sanded the ends?

I tried sanding one of the really bad ends I have. Just to see how it would sand. I used 600 grit and from what I saw, it’s not going to be a desirable finished product. However it looked to me like it would take well to painting.

I wonder if going over one of those end caps with a heat gun or propane torch would improve their appearance any. It wouldn't hurt to try it on one that already looked bad.

I'm leary of using a heat gun. I have a good one, but the last time I tried it on a handle, although it was not an end piece. I burnt it.
