Flooring over concrete.

As many of you probably know our house caught fire a couple 4th of July’s ago.
As we get close to going home one of the things I want to do is turn my garage into a living space where the kids can hang out watch movies play games and stuff.
It’s new a new pour, concrete with fiber. Not sure why the contractor chose with fiber but apparently it won’t crack as much.

All in all a beautiful concrete job, driveway was done at that same time.

I want to put down flooring in the garage, I love the look of wood colored tile, I have read it could possibly crack. LVP is on the table.

Doing a thick veneer engineered hardwood in the house but probably want better moisture protection in the garage. It was poured with a vapor barrier under the concrete in the garage.

Any thoughts recommendations?

You can easily do LVP right over concrete. It's well regarded for that type of use. I'd not worry one bit of using it like that. Plus it's tough enough to stand up to at the least parking your cars in there as well when desired. And there are the ones that are actually water proof not just "resistant"

Re: fiberglass. It's a choice between rebar & fiber. I suspect there's a bit of a load concern, but your garage will be lightly loaded. Dad's storage shed (about 40'x70') was poured with fiber reinforcing, and it's held up just fine to ag equipment. The original shop was poured in 1967 with 3 courses of block, and it only has a couple of cracks. If you don't have to lay in rebar, it's just adding fiber to the pour and maybe a little more work finishing.

Alot of guys do epoxy floors for a man cave or workout garage. They make interlocking vinyl or rubber matts/ tiles.
Check out a sliding screen door if your gonna hang out.

SwissTrax.

I have it in my garage and they make solid tiles and drainage tiles. Absolutely love it.

I can connect you with the CA rep. He usually extends a discount when you buy through him. And he does free design services.

Fiber is much more crack resistant then the old 6x6 mesh.
Now's the time to to do it while it's still new. My BIL's finishers did a outstanding job on his basement and garage floor. He did a DIY stain in the basement and a epoxy in the garage.

Can't remember the brand, but I laid vinyl planks in our master bath and walk-in closet a few years ago.
They are a rustic barn wood pattern with a thin cork backing. Pretty durable and look great.
Same here Bob. The brand we used was Amtico. [I'm not sure what it's called in the US].
It's 3mm hard-wearing - [perfect for high-traffic areas] - looks super, stupidly easy to keep clean, requires practically zero maintenance except a damp mop when necessary......& costs much less than natural wood, & hundreds of different designs to choose from.

We have a raised foundation, with maybe a 2 foot high crawl space.
Very common out here.
Personally I would love a basement, which is why I’m turning the garage into a family game room space.

I had a tough shed installed July 3rd 2023. The house caught fire July 4th. 😆
My kids used the shed as a fort for the day on the 3rd so didn’t get much moved from the garage. Nothing in the garage was salvageable and most of it just burned completely away.
