First Time Using iGrill

Put a 4lb Brisket flat on and first time using my new iGrill. I know many others have said this but.....I am surprised at the difference between the iGrill ambient temp and the WSM dome temp. My iGrill ambient temp is holding steady at 255dg while dome temp reads 225dg. From what I've read this is typical???

Think the next few smokes I do I will put the iGrill ambient temp probe at different locations on the grill grate and see if it makes any difference in the readings. Then average the results. I can live with a 30dg difference and as long as its consistent it shouldn't be any big deal....just take dome temp and add 30dg.

Do any of you find that placing the ambient temp probe at different locations on the grate makes any difference in the readings you get?

Thanks much,
Dan

Dwain, no disconnect problems yet. Seems to working great but of course this is my first time using it.

I've always tried to put the meat in the center so it's directly over my water pan. My ambient probe is also still over the water pan but towards the outside with its tip pointed inward toward the meat.

Hi Dan,

Don't have an iGrill, but do use a Stoker. Have installed the grommets thru which I insert the Pit probe. The Pit probe does not reside on either cooking grate but rather sits just inside the WSM so as to see the temperature of the air as it is being applied to cooking area. Since the Pit probe supplies the air temperature information to the Stoker for control, I want it to see the temperature of that air before it can be altered by any other thermal mass, such as the grates and, of course, any meats.

I have an Igrill and have the same trouble with the temp readings. I use wine corks i had laying around to support the probe off of the grate. It still seems to read high no matter how I position it. My question is what is the correct temp reading? Dome or Igrill? when i started i always assumed the high tech gadget was right as it was closer to the meat. But my cook times and experience tell me the dome temp is right. And btw the only connectivity problems i have is when i first connect the igrill i usually have to turn everything on/off a couple times before it connects and works, but after that its all good

On my WSM, the dome temp gauge is pretty accurate, within 10-15 degrees after testing it with a Maverick ET-732 several times. On the Performer and 26.75 kettle, the dome temp reads much higher than actual. As long as you know this you'll be fine. I have thought about replacing all the gauges with better ones, but haven't since really it would be a waste of time and money.
