George, how's the cook going? Believe it or not I've yet to do a picnic. When you do your picnics do you cut slits in the skin, rub it with anything special etc?

larry, i'm still in the experimenting stage as far as picnics are concerned. i cover it with nustard, salt and pepper. thats it as i like things simple. not sure what i'm gonna do with the skin. i put cross cuts into it and i'll see what happens. the last few i did i just threw the skin away. i was gonna take the skin off this time but changed my mind. got two midsized ones at 0.99 a lb. yea, yea, its funny about calif. as its a big state. one part is at 70 deg and another its snowing. for me its a pain cuz i'm in a wheelchair so i have to be carefull about the weather. was at wal mart sat and someone asked about the big portable swimming pools and the employee said not yet cuz its not the season for them yet. we have been in the 70's for a few weeks ! grrrr, as the wind is whipping around the house messing with the kettle. never fails when i want to do something the weather actsup. gonna be a long day.i

Yea George it's blowing pretty good up here. I'd guess we've got gusts up to 40 mph up here. Glad I did my cook yesterday. Good luck with it.

well, that was fun

. 7 hours, the meat was done. the bark is kinda junk but the meat is ok. just couldn't get the temp up were i wanted it. the coals burned quickly and i went through 3 times the amount i usually do. the having to add briquettes a lot more often and the swirling wind i think added to the bark not being so good. was interesting to watch the smoke come out the bottom of the kettle or nothing coming out and then a huge surge of smoke and ash streaming out the top like an old train. so i learned a lot. one is to not bother on a really windy day !!
