First iGrill cook

I received a FEDEX Box today. Inside was the fantastic gift from the TVWBB drawing and a note from iDevices that said Congratulations on winning the TVWBB contest.

We had already planned to grill some bone-in rib eyes tonight for supper so we figured what a great opportunity to check out the new toy. I started a chimney full of Royal Oak and placed some zucchini on the indirect side. Then I added the marinated steaks on the hover grill with the iGrill probe installed.

The iGrill turned out a very nice medium rare steak and it was pretty cool watching the temps on a steady rise. I think I will hit the sear much harder next time around.

I had the iGrill send me this graph from my iPhone over email which was pretty cool as well.

I read the manual, setup the iGrill per the instructions, and it work as advertised straight out of the box. The only thing I noticed was after 400* it turned red and posted a warning on the iPhone. I read that it was only good to 400* so I removed the grill probe. This shouldn't be a problem with the WSM.

Again, Thank You Chris for the great gift and to all the TVWBB member's cool comments on the contest thread. :)

Very cool, Dwain! It's great to see the iGrill in action. Oh yeah…the steak looks fantastic!! Great post. Thanks.

The cook looks great. I also like the cool new toy. I let my neighbor borrow my remote thermo and he burned up the probe. Be careful on direct cooks.

how did you like it? Have you used the maverick? Wonder how it compares!

I have a Mav 73 (older version) and really they do they same thing but in a diff way. There are pros and cons of each. I had to add an antenna to my Mav to get the range required but the iGrill seems to have plenty of range. I've read some comments about probe durability so the jury is still out on that.

One key I've noted is that iDevices is listening to and up grading features per customers requests. To add features they can simply update the app. For instance they added features based specifically for smokers. One example is the temp range. If the fire goes above or below a set temp an alarm will sound -- just like the Mav.

My concern is putting my beloved Therapen out of business. Mine is black with flames--and we all know the black ones are the fastest. ;)

Looks great! I recently got an iGrill too. Be careful with the probes - I already had the ambient temp probe fail on me.

Only thing is - that iGrill looks mighty precarious on that wood post! I'd be afraid it'd come tumbling down.

I have just seen heaven.
