Al, glad to here it came out great. How did you like the sweet smell of the lump burning? I have had no problems with ash build up using the double grate mod. I've been using it for over 2 yrs now wether i use kingsford or lump.
Kinsford verses lump cost needs to be looked at a little bit. My last cook went 20 1/2 hrs on 9 lbs 12 ozs of lump. Not too shabby. It takes approximately 6 lbs of kinsford just to fill the Weber Chimney Starter so as for cost i think they are pretty equal. JMO Bryan

Well,
This is, I think, the best butt I have ever cooked. The aroma of the lump smoke is sooooo much nicer than Kingsford.

The flavor of the pork seems sweeter as well. I guess that makes me a lump convert.

There was some ash, but not as much as with briquettes. There is still about 20 percent left in the smoker. I started with about 8 pounds. The ring was full plus some heaped up .Seems like the same volume as with briquettes.

Chuck roll here I come !!!!!!

Al
