First butt....

Was planning on cook a 5lb butt this weekend. Was thinking about putting on at 6am for 6-7pm dinner? Does this sound like enough time for cooking and resting or should I go overnight?

That's probably enough time for a 5lb butt. Usually 1.5 hours per lb so that would be around 7-8 hours tops. If it finishes early, wrap it in HD foil and rest in a cooler wrapped in old towels.

Depends on the temps cooked at.

Cook at 210 grate, and it may take most of that time.

Cook at 240 grate, and you'll be done much earlier.

Cook at 270 grate, and you might have to reheat it.

I was going to cook around 230-240 grate (245-260 lid, I have a candy therm w/cork).
