First beer can chicken

Made my first beer can chicken on my performer last night, used Steven Raichlen's recipe for memphis rub, stubb's briqquettes. I soaked some hickory, apple, and oak chips in the beer I used. Wanted to experiment with the beer, I used Unibroue's Ephemere which is an apple wheat beer and it was awesome. Definitely loving the performer. My name is Eric, and I am addicted to my Weber.

Eric, sounds GREAT!
butt... if you did not photo this cook and post 'em, it didn't happen. OK?

Welcome Eric. I love cooking whole bird on my smoker or kettle. Makes for a very juicy, flavorful chicken. Also, any leftovers make great take-to-work lunches for the week. Cheers!

Thanks Jim Lampe, if you could "enlighten" me and let me know how to upload a pic here I have before and after shots but I can't figure out how to post them here yet.

As far as leftovers Gary, wth are those?

GREAT looking bird Eric, nicely done.

And if I recall, posting links to the photos rather than the photos themselves is the preferred method on the boards.

Eric-

Cooking beer butt chicken is a lot of fun (so is eating it). But teaching your friends, neighbors and relatives to cook it is a blast also! Works great on charcoal or gas (I use a mix of alder and apple for smoke). So share locally with friends, they will be most appreciative.

That looks perfect. I strongly advise you allow yourself to become completely obsessed with cooking on that Weber of yours. Try all kinds of crazy things!

Just be sure to read posts by all the crazy geniuses on this site, and post pics of all your cooks. Even the disasters are entertaining to read.

Welcome!
