Firebox glowing on the right side

A friend of mine has a Spirit. One of the last gen Spirit models with the east west running burners and the 4 tiny office chair wheels. It is in some desperate need to get overhauled. I could not have a loot it yet in person but one thing made me curious: she is telling me that ever since she had the grill new the firebox would get really hot on the right side towards the manifold and start glowing when running the grill on full power. Does anyone know what could cause that?
I will have a chance to look at it in the next days but I just wonder what that problem could be. She also sent me a photo which shows the side of the firebox all white.
 
Wow, that sounds pretty scary. My hunches would be accumulated grease that starts burning or maybe more likely failure of one or both burners with holes near that side allowing way too much flame.
 
Thanks. I am going to have a look at it the next days. I still have a few set of burners I salvaged and which are still good.
 
Could be a bad casting, bad burner(s) or she's just seeing the flames a little in the burner access port cast into the box
 
I grilled burgers on my Spirit last evening, after dark. And I noticed the burners on the right side had a lot of orange flame. I looked underneath at the permanent grease pan, and it was fine. The glow was coming from the burners. I wondered if it needed adjustments. In the daytime, I probably would not notice.
 
If the burners are running orange that means the gas/air ratio is wrong. They are not getting enough air. Take the control panels of and check the spider guards on the burners. They might be clogged. There is also a little screw in each of these. You can loosen that and turn the spider guard to regulate the air flow.
 
Yah, it could be air flow or it could just be burners that are in need of service (cleaning) or replacement. I would be interested to see this grill in action and be able to look at the burners while the side is "glowing". That should tell you a lot.
 
I agree Larry. That is why I would like to see it in action. It could just be someones interpretation of what is actually going on.
