After watching craigslist for a long long time, I finally found a SS performer. Of course it was advised as being used "4 or 5 times" lol. When I went to look at it, it was obviously ridden hard & put away wet. But the gas ignition fired right up (which is a funny story in itself as neither the seller or I knew how to use it!), had 3/4 bin full of charcoal & it came with a rotisserie! The seller was an elderly lady whose husband used to grill on it & recently passed away. I didn't want to haggle & gave her $130. She gave me an envelope stuffed with instructions for the performer & the rotisserie which also showed the original purchase date (2003), very cool! As I'm wheeling it out, she asked me if I wanted the cover. It was beat up looking, faded splotchy Grey. I said sure figuring I'd throw it over the grill until I bought a new one.
Once home, it took 3 cans of oven cleaner & a bunch of elbow grease to clean her up but she shined up nicely! I didn't bother with the cruddy cooking grill & tossed it. I threw a spare non hinge grate on for now - there may be a cast iron grate in my future... Plugged the rotisserie in, it works.
First cook was some BBQ chicken & I can't tell you guys how tickled I am! From the work table to lighting the charcoal baskets with the gas assist & then moving the baskets for indirect, to the slide aside lid holder... Everything is so simple & well thought out! I had no idea that the thermometer could be removed & (technically) be used to check food Temps - a nice touch!
And, upon inspecting the cover I discovered that it was turned inside out & is a nice weber cover, sweet!
The better half has named her Lucille.
