Yeah! I took a drive to Milwaukee's largest Hispanic grocery store, El Rey to pick up some stuff for this weekend's cooking.
While i was loading 20 nice limes (for a buck) in my bag, I noticed an elder gentleman stacking nopales like roof shingles. And my eyes lit up!

I only bought two, wish i woulda bought many more. Cleaned and seasoned like John does, a little EVOO, S&P a a touch of granulated Gaaaaalic.
Also picked up some poblano peppers (.88¢ lb). Anyway, going to make an El Rey run AT LEAST once a month now.
OK, got the beef seasoned

The nopales were grilled about 4 to 5 minutes each side, then sliced and served with the poblanos.
Broccoli was a stand by in case liz did not like the nopales

I must thank John Solak (and this forum) for introducing me to nopales. I will have these many more times.
And I thank you all for visiting!
Enjoy your weekend! ¡Buen provecho!

I love my local Hispanic grocers - especially when I need lots of limes.

Great cooking' Jim! I'm diggin' the nopales.

Thanks guys

Daniel, i've read that grilled nopales taste "like a cross between a green bean and a green bell pepper"... and that's pretty close,
butt i certainly did taste a lemony / citrus flavour... quite good, i'd think you'd like it.

I'm glad DW asked that question, I was wondering about the taste too.

Outstanding Mexican themed cook Jim!
Don't know how you'll top this tomorrow, but if anyone can do it, you can!

(I'm headed to do a search for the nearest Mexican market)

Food looks great Jim. I agree, the texture is similar to green beans (can be a little crunchy or almost mushy, depending on how you cook them), but with a slightly tart flavor. I love the Mexican grocery stores around here. You can find just about anything there, and usually at a great price.
