I foil the water pan, inside and outside. The next day, or whenever things have cooled down, I take the water pan and a) I'll empty it into a bucket, and carry the bucket down the block to the sewer and dump it, or b) I'll empty the water pan into the lawn, in a section of the yard that's kind o' messy and not doing too well as far as growing grass is concerned. Attracting critters isn't a problem here on the space coast...it rains almost every day.
