Dustin' off the rust - BBQ Short Ribs

I have been trolling and reading and sitting around way too long.

Woke up Saturday morning and decided Sunday was the day to get back into BBQ mode after a year and a half of off and on grilling and smoking. Since I use read this board regularly, but rarely contribute - I had an old account which I used a few times - I thought to throw up my Sunday cook and contribute to the community.

Went with some beef short ribs, and used a simple rub of pepper and salt. First time I have cooked this cut.

Put them in the 'fridge over night and pulled them out Sunday morning while I got the Kettle ready.

The Sun wasn't out yet in Los Angeles, but Venus was bright in the sky at 6:30.

I don't have a Smokey Mountain - yet! So my Kettle does all the work. I used charcoal and a few slivers of hickory.

The ribs were on at 7:20 A.M. and I am planning to use a 3-2-1 method. My wife says she is going to make homemade biscuits and serve with a salad. I hope to keep you all up to date with the final results.

Got a few more hours for the ribs to be done, so my wife told me I have time to make some homemade BBQ sauce from one of Steven Raichlen's books.

Beef short ribs turned out pretty good. The Wife made some salad with walnuts, dried cranberries, feta cheese, and white vinaigrette dressing. She also made some homemade biscuits, strawberry shortcake, and strawberry lemonade.

Overall, it was great to be cooking again and look forward to the next cook-out.

Where did the cake come from? And what the heck are the red squares on your tree? The ribs and the sauce? Thank you very much!

The cake was made by my wife - she loves baking as much as I love grilling and BBQ'ing. It was strawberry shortcake. Myself wife said it was a recipe from a Pioneer Woman Cookbook.

The red squares are birdhouses my kids made at The Home Depot during one for the free kids workshops the host.
