Door latch parts - Older 18-1/2 WSM

When I look at the schematic for putting the knob hardware on I don't understand why the star washer is under the knob. I would think that this would make things bind?

Sequence: (from parts diagram)
Knob
Star Washer
Door
Flat Washer
Nut
Door Fastener (threaded thing with tab)

The sequence on my older (wood handle) WSM is:

Knob
Nut
Star Washer
Door
Flat Washer
Door Fastener (threaded thing with tab)

Which is correct?
I'm waiting on the new parts from Weber.

Your bottom sequence is the same as my 08 WSM.
