Does anybody else check their receipt when returning from the grocery store?

I check mine every time, and 50% of the time in the last few months, I'm being overcharged by not getting the sale/discount price on items, or I'm not being given the "rewards" points on offer. Usually the mistake is only a few dollars, but it's been as much as seven.

Maybe that doesn't seem like much, but over a year it's a few hundred dollars . . . over millions of customers . . . .

Anyone else experiencing this, or do you not even check your receipts?

I think they do it on purpose. Watch items that have been discounted with an extra label. If they don't cover or obliterate the original bar code with the discounted bar code you could be charged the original price. Now I carry a Sharpie to cross off the original bar code. A few weeks ago I bought packages of cherry tomatoes, $3.50 a package discounted to 50 cents because some were clearly rotten inside. No big deal, sort and wash. But I was charged full price. That's $6.00 overcharge for one $57.00 transaction.

If your store offers rewards points, make sure they are being credited. On my last $89.00 visit I didn't receive $4.50 in rewards points. Percentage wise, for a grocery store, that's a huge profit.

My wife, being an accountant, spots ring up mistakes before the receipt even comes out. Not too many of them at our store though. When I go, it's usually for 1 or 2 items, and being cheap, I'm finding them on sale so I'm alert that they'll ring up properly. There are certain stores though, where I've found it habitually wrong, where I've suspected that it was on purpose.

Sorry to break the spell, but no dog avatar here. Haven't had a dog in a while and won't ever have another.

No dog for me. And if I go to the chain stores yes, but not when I go to our little market in the village. Hell I mostly never even have them print a receipt

Tim, I'm lucky if I can even get a receipt........from DH. When I do, there have been a few times when things aren't right. Can't think of an example right now, but I'm sure there will be another screw up soon. lol

If I buy anything for the house, the Minister of Finance gets a receipt. :)
