I just bought a house with a septic system and I don't want to dump the water from the pan down the drain. I'm told the fat may clog the system. Burying it in the yard isn't really an option either, animals and the smell, any suggestions?

Thanks
Kev

I make a container out of doubled plastic grocery bags-- the big blue Walmart ones are good, but check for holes-- and place a paper grocery bag inside. After the coals are extinguished, I reclaim any large pieces and dump the ashes and rest into the bag, followed by the water from the pan, which is soaked up nicely by the ash. Roll down the paper bag and tie the plastic handles shut, and it's ready for the trash.

If you are able to leave the water until it completely cools down, you may be able to skim the fat off (this works really well in cold weather, of course). The remaining water should be okay for the septic system to handle.
