Did What I Said I Wouldn't

Well, congrats, Larry. For us, we went with that 13 cu ft, 6' tall, 2x2' frost-free Hotpoint and are really happy with it. It takes more room than we like and mostly blocks a window side lite, but works great in the corner of our kitchen. Similar to a suggestion above, we kept the bins from the defunct chest freezer. We keep the less needed items behind the bins and can pull the bins out for "searching" if needed.

C'mon guys -- more "old" crap?! Don't I know it! At 75, I feel like I can barely turn myself over in bed. Trying to lift a 30 lb center speaker onto our mantle a couple of months ago resulted in a charlie-horse behind my left shoulder blade that will just not go away! Hiring local muscle is a good thing -- and I'm not talking gangster.

Honestly no room in my garage. The builder who built these homes should have been tied up with a blindfold to a post and shot for building garages this small and calling them 2.5 car. They're BARELY 2 car. Even just my RAV4 and Highlander are crowded in there. Years ago we had an F150 Supercab (it was an 86 for reference). To park it we had to put the back bumper right up against the wall so the front bumper would barely clear the door. My kingdom for a REAL garage

Suggestion, contact a local moving company but not one of the big interstates companies.
Thats what I did when I had to move a gun safe and a freezer down into the lower level of our new house.
They did it between jobs and it cost me $75, but worth every penny of it, the gun safe weighs about 400lbs.
Not an actual company but a local handyman jack of all guy I hired to come here today. He said $75. Once I have it fired up and running, I wlll empty the small one into it and he said he'd come back and move the other one up

Good call, I've got my neighbor down the street coming over tomorrow to replace our garbage disposal. He has a handyman business. Very fair prices, although it still sucks that I can't do it myself anymore, but no way could I get under that sink and replace it.

He came by with his cousin. They got it down, it's unwrapped and now standing upright. I will not start it for the next 24-36 hours. Partly because we'll not be home. Due to touring a couple assisted living facilities for my dad with my sister. He WILL be making a choice tomorrow or I think my sister will wring his neck :D
Also because it was laying down and it's best if you don't start a fridge or freezer for at least 24 hours after laying down
All I can say is damn that is one NICE freezer. Pics will follow.

Looks real nice Larry, should do you well.
Hope all goes well with your dad.
Thanks. I plugged it in this AM and the darn thing went to full cold in about 40 minutes! Talk about a surprise. When I set up the Thompson freezer I had to wait nearly half a day for it to reach freeze temps. So this Samsung is amazing
Re, my dad. Got call from my sister. She gets a frantic call from dad, care taker did not show up. She had to run over there quickly to help out, and she finally showed up almost 2 full hours late. No explanation.
We cannot get him in a different place too soon

The freezer looks great! The situation with your dad not so much. Both our fathers died early, but we went through much the same wit our mothers. MIL passed soon after the move, but my Mom said later she was really glad to make that move to a supportive environment. Best of luck to you all.

Nice freezer! We want to get an upright to compliment the big chest freezer in the garage, but need to make space for it, which is easier said than done.

Good that you got your dad into a better place. That can make all the difference.

I got the thing into the basement, on Thursday. Friday AM before leaving to tour the assisted living facilities for my dad, I plugged it in after ensuring it was solid and level. Damn if that thing was not down to -4 in an hour. Thing was REALLY fast. It's so much nicer to have something be more at my eye level, lit up, and easy to organize. Of course the little one did a great job as well and for what I spent (nearly 4X less than the Samsung) it did a great job.
Cool thing too about the Samsung. Because it's convertible between fridge or freezer, some folks buy 2 mount them side by side and you have a good size fridge and a good size freezer

Glad you're happy with new freezer and sorry to hear about the glitch with your dad, hopefully things will smooth out going forward.
With your freezer being in the basement you might want to get one of these. My two are out in the garage and it sure makes it a lot easier to monitor them.
I've had mine for over a year and they both just needed new remote batteries for the first time. The monitor is A/C powered.
The refrigerator freezer spooked me out the first time I saw it go into the defrost cycle I thought the thing was dying on me.
Just a thought.

The freezer has a low temp alarm built in and a door open alarm. Though I don't know how loud either is. I put that one you mentioned in my wish list. Thanks!

Do find out how loud that alarm is. Ours is barely audible.
Looking for ways to test it but see none in the manual. So I have no clue which is why I may get a couple or so of the ones you referenced. Since I have a fridge/freezer in basement and the Samsung freezer down there as well. Upstairs in the kitchen I am not as worried. Though I do wonder how much longer that old Amana can hold out. IDK how to find out how old it is #1 and #2 I had to buy it back when we were "down and out". Broke to the point of.....................well lets just say REALLY broke having been laid off, a daughter in college and need I go on?
So my kitchen unit was bought used back in 2009. It was all I could afford.
So I've had it 14 years and I have no idea how old it was. But it keeps chugging along. Only thing it's needed was I replaced the ice maker in it IDK like 5 or 6 years ago? And hell even THAT was a used one I found on Flea Bay!
But, "knock wood" it keeps on going!

So I ordered that alarm. Not sure it's doing what it's supposed to do. Quite complicated

That’s cool.
I never knew you could get an alarm upgrade.
I have to use a bungee cord on my California freezer.
My wife says I keep forgetting to properly shut it but I kinda think it is so old it will open on its own.

A few months ago my son, my older brother and I hauled my 650 lb. gun safe from California to Washington.
There was about 80 feet and 4 steps at each location and it wasn’t fun.
Thankfully we had sch80 plastic pipe for rolling the beast and a dolly with solid wheels.
I heard that taking off the door makes it much easier.
Doing that doesn’t do anything but waste time and cause arguments, I come to find.
I did find out that it’s much harder rigging and lifting this beast up than lowering it down though .
That and I’m too old for any of this kinda stuff anymore.

Well it didn't take long. That thermometer/alarm died. Tried reset, batteries and so on. One sensor DOA. Sending it back. Will look for something better
