Deodorize a burr coffee grinder

Hey, made some 3 Peckered Billy Goat with the stinky Ode today (well not as stinky anymore LOL). No off flavors or smells from it. Coffee was good. The 3 PBG though IMO is a little on the light bodied side. Especially considering it's labeled as a "dark roast". It's smooth though and has nice balance to it. I honestly prefer something with a little more "cajons"

A little bit late to the party, as it seems you fully deodorized your machine, but if there are any traces of smell left, I would pick up a bag of cheap beans and run them through the machine.
There is still a trace left, but it's now not smelling up the entire room it's in. You actually need to put your nose in it

Well so far the second Ode is performing perfectly and I think soon will be placed up on FleaBay and or Marketplace as I really don't need 2. But this one is even quieter than my new one. Go figure.

I bought a used Krups blade grinder to grind spices. The person that owned it used it to grind chocolate? Any way that was the smell and stains, I blew it out and wiped it out with damp paper towels. It looks like new but still smells like chocolate. I figure eventually I will grind some spices and hope the chocolate will dissipate.

Try a tablespoon of dry rice in it first.

Funny you mention someone using it for chocolate. I found an Encore on EBay I got really cheap because it was all clogged up with chocolate. I even had a thread on it here with photos of the mess I had to clean up.
Thankfully this Fellow Ode 2 did not have anything really "foreign" put through it. Just some quite "aromatic" flavored beans. I can't put my finger on the aroma profile. Could be a little vanilla and maybe some caramel notes thought not a spice forward aroma. Just definitely not a "profile" I want in my coffee. I want coffee to taste and smell like coffee, I want beer to taste like beer (not oranges, lemons or whatever fru fru flavorings people want to through in them). Just beer.

There some recipes and adjunct flavors that I do find delightful in beer. A wheat beer with a little orange is a nice summer time beer, for example.

This place I frequent says to use “minute” rice…

Urnex lists grains as top 2 ingredients:
I ordered the Urnex product. Should be here tomorrow. I'll give it a whirl and see if it cleans out the last of the smells. Then I'll do another deep clean and get it listed for sale. Think I'd like the $$$ more than 2 Ode 2 grinders

Well Amazon has let me down once again by changing delivery dates of my orders to WAY further out than anticipated (this has been endemic with them lately). So wife had to stop at Aldi's yesterday (gotta support the son in law :D) and I asked her to buy some generic cheap "minute" or "instant" dried rice.
Well I'll be darned! I ran it through the ODE 2 and WOW does it do a job. I ran about 1/2 cup total varying the grind size as it ran. It cleaned it out like it was just shipped brand new! I'd purposely been using it daily and leaving it "dirty" in hopes that the "good beans" will offset the smell of the "stinky" ones. It even cleaned the chute spotless, everything plus it absorbed a lot more of the "aroma" that the ozone/plasma machine did not get.
I was so impressed I ran it through my Baratza Forte BG (the one with steel burrs) and I could not believe the trash it pushed out of there leaving behind a spotless grind chamber, burrs and chute.
Call me AMAZED! I honestly thought this was internet lore

Any dust or other residuals from the minute rice?

I suppose running cheap beans after the rice should flush anything leftover out…

Honestly could not find any residue to speak of. Except in the catch bin. But I have a small HEPA vacuum cleaner I use expressly for only my grinders. So I passed it around. Totally very handy little gadget to have for this
