DD Stainless Steel Performer

My DD Stainless Steel Performer was falling apart. The bottom horizontal welds had broken lose. The swivel caster had disintegrated. If you tried to move it the frame would just rack. I had it held together with tie wire.

I did not try to restore it. I just wanted to make it functional again.

I took it all apart and sanded all the rust off and cleaned things. I then used corner brackets at all horizontal and vertical intersections. I used 1/4” all thread thru the bottom horizontal members with acorn nuts on each end. I screwed some aluminum angle to the vertical members that held the swivel casters. I then painted it and reassembled it.

I can now move it without any problems, and it works just fine.

I did this about two years ago and it is holding up well.

The last two pictures are the finished product

Great save, SS Performers are one of the best charcoal bbq machines out there....

My SS Performer was in similar shape. There was considerable rust on all the lower horizontal tubes. I replaced the two lower tubes that span the length of the grill with square aluminum tubing and used these connectors.
