Hi, Everybody! I am Dan from northern Ca. I am new to smoking and got lots to learn. I am not sure if I should get the new 14.5" or 18.5" WSM. It's just me and my wife Marge...&
....16 grand kids, all under 10. I love camping and lean towards the portability of the 14.5". Occasionally we camp with the grand kids and I like the 18.5" or even the 22.5" though they are not as portable. What do you all think?

Welcome to the site Dan....that is a rather large clan you have going on there. I don't do a lot of camping but I guess you're left with two options....buy big, PITA to haul around but plenty of room for food, or buy small easy to haul around but PITA to fit all of the food on for everyone.

If I were in your shoes, if I had the room to haul and store it I would purchase the 22.5, one fight hauling and storing, however at 18.5 every dinner will be a challenge if you're having a lot of family over. Just my two cents.
 
You guys are great! I think I'll start with the 14.5" to learn the basics. Then eventually get the 22.5". Thinking of jalepeños...has any one ever smoked cream cheese stuffed ones? They are amazing grilled!
 
Hi Dan and welcome aboard.

I originally got a 18 1/2" WSM, I got the 22 1/2" model a year later. Though I use both of them, if I had to have just one, I'd have the 22 1/2" WSM. You never have enough room. :)

Thanks to all. I've decided to start with the 14.5" for my birthday (November 23). To learn the basics. I was really impressed with the heat shield at the bottom. With the WSM elevated I won't be taxing my knee so much. (Recent surgery). Then for Christmas, I'll go for the 18.5".....Then my wife's birthday is February ...¿22.5"?

Jerome you are right! I am more than satisfied. Did 2 whole chickens tonight and words can't do justice to how moist and tender they were! I am looking forward to the next smoking adventure !!
