Sorry I have not been here for a while, off on vacation to Maine with the family....

So I've been a gas grill guy for some time, but after using the WSM as a grill I was reminded how good grilled food over charcoal tastes. I really wanted a performer, but 300.00 wasn't in the budget right now. So after cruising Craigs List for a bit I stumbled across this.... for 50.00!



Chip the wonder dog approves...The lid is a bit out of round, and it has some chips on the edge, but the gas assist fired the first time and everything else looks great. Some cleaning to do to get rid of some mold inside, along with some new grates and we are ready to go!



So this is what we are doing today... got the WSM fired up with a couple of beef roasts for some lettuce wraps for company tonight, first time using the heatermeter the boy made for me (only as a temp gauge, I have not done my part and hooked the fan up yet...), lit up some coals in the performer to burn off some crud, and will follow up with a good scrubbing with some oven cleaner to bring her back to like new condition. The guy I bought it from asked me how much they go for new... he was a bit dismayed when I told him... :cool:

 
Nice score. I would check out Target for clearance priced grates. I pick mine up this time of year on the cheap.
 
A great score Dave! That is where I got my Performer, but surely didn't get away with it for $50.00! ;)
But it beats the new prices by a long shot!
 
You're gonna love the performer, I've got it's twin Brother that I picked up at an estate sale for $50 also. My gasser is pretty much a wind brake for my mini wsm now. I see you got a grillin guard dog too.
 
That's a great score! The gray performer was built for sale at Crate & Barrel stores only. Fairly rare find which makes the deal even sweeter.

I've been looking for a while now and it seems with the end of the season quite a few are pooping up all of a sudden. Good luck on your search!
 
I got mine on CL too for 180$ and thought I was getting a great deal (and I was). It was in great shape and very clean. Anyways, your going to love it. As a die hard charcoal man, I'm glade to hear you've come over to the light side.
