Cover fits pretty tight

Getting the cover on this thing is pretty hard. I've got an 18.5....cooks like a dream, but this cover seems like it would be a better fit for a smaller smoker. Any advice would be appreciated.

The cover on my 22" goes on/off with ease and never had an issue with it.
The cover on my 18" is an animal to get on/off. In the winter, I can literally pick the entire WSM off the ground by lifting on the cover.
They made the 18 stupid tight while the 22 is perfect. I don't get it either.

I don't think Weber makes the covers equally. Mine slipped on with plenty of room to spare, but was just a tad tight after adding side handles. Mine is a 08.

Mine fits loose, good or tight, depending on how you turn it...seems like my 18.5" smoker isn't round but rather slightly oval. If I turn the top, there will be a point where it will 'stick', another point where it will fit good and another where it will be loose. After I did a cook and let it cool down, the lid it tight from the sticky goodness of the smoked meat.

Cutting the elastic straps at the bottom of the cover can help, so does adding a large trash bag and slipping the cover over that.. Less friction.

Agree with Tim and Kirk - cut those dumb straps. I found they were most of the issue. The cover still fits fine after just won't get snagged going up or down.

Just to add to my original comment --- I did snip the elastic straps and still have ^^^^ that issue.
