Coupla Tri tips

I've been lurking here a while, so I decided it was time to post something. I had the day off, and decided to fire up the WSM. Grabbed a couple of Tri Tips, rubbed them down and put them on the grills. Came out great!

Now I know after looking around here that the water/no water argument has soldiers on both sides. I have tried both, and actually use both methods, depending on what mood I'm in.

My method of choice is actually an aluminum lasagna pan filled with apple juice or water, and some cut up veggies. The flavor of the veggies and juice is definitely noticeable in the meat, and the family likes the added flavor.

I get the pans at a dollar store, 2 for $1, and when i'm done with it, I rinse it out and recycle it with my beer cans.

Thanks for the comments. Dave, I smoked it for just about 2 hrs at 250 degrees. Pulled it at 145 inner temp.

George, I usually do cut it thinner, but it isn't about what makes me happy, it's about what makes the wife happy.

Looks good John. Ever try a reverse sear on those tris?

Welcome to the board.

Man those tri-tips are making my eyes water! To be honest I really don’t think you can screw up a tri-tip short of burning it. I have tried all kinds of methods, sear first, sear at the end, BBQ gas grill, BBQ smoker, BBQ one-touch, and they all taste great I just wish I could find this cut of meat easier.

Looking Good!

Our local Costco has tri-tip all the time and for great prices.
