Cook going and need to refill

I do the hot squat all the time wearing gloves. I DON"T use water so that makes it less tricky. I've done it with 6 chickens, 4 butts etc. Just grab the mid section under the rim with suede gloves and set it down next to the base. stir up the coals, knock off some ash add new coals, let any ash blow away and put the mid section back on the base. easy peasy.

Tim, does the cover still fit if you add handles?

My cover fits, although it's a tad bit snug.

The handle modification is definitely worth it. Small cost for a nice convenience.

Funny. That's exactly what I use.

I have a pair of leather welding gloves and that makes it easy to add lit or unlit but I use Royal Oak lump so generally add unlit. It really comes back to temp pretty quick. Did a 12 hr last week and had to add fuel and water.
