after reading all of the rants about redheads I had to get in on the fun. i have been watching the local CL and finally found one. it's missing the ash catcher, needs cleaning, one handle bent, and some chips on the bowl but I figured it would be a fun project to clean up and restore. Picked it up for $10. how did I do? from what i have found online, it looks to be either a '68,'69, or '70 since it is patent pending . I have a lot of work ahead of me!

pics---just picked it up and had to head back to work so havent had a chance to clean anything

Holy cow that is cheap! Steel wool them legs and wax it up and I'd let he rip! Get some handles from Brian too, the wood handles look absolutely amazing on the red if you ask me. Makes 'em look like a red Ferrari with tan interior. :D

update-----waxed the lid a bit and it is nice and shiney. i had a spare charcoal grate for it saved from my ECB project so charcoal grate is replaced. cooking grate could be salvageable, but i want a hinged one anyhow. placed an order from weber.com for the ashtray and the hinged cooking grate. i was tempted to just buy the whole charcoal grill wheels, triangles, ashtray but i am trying to save some money. i figure some steel wool and elbow grease will clean up my current legs and the wheels are still functioning still. picking up some 0000 steel wool from HD(assuming they carry it) and giving her a good cleaning this Friday. i might try and sand the lid handle and seal it. i am sure down the road i will pick up an oak handle from Brian.......

Looks just like the one I picked up last week. Patent Pending stamp so its a late 68, 69, or 70. Clean the legs, triangle, and ash pan with SOS pad and they will come clean. Then polish them with Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish. They will look great. Wheels look good, just missing a bit of rubber but if they roll keep those for sure!

Are you gonna try and do any touch up paint or redo the whole paint job possibly? I wanna see how it waxed out, I bet it shines a whole lot better after a good coat. May be perfect even without any touch-up paint!

I got some maple handles for my grill and they look awesome. I think they would look even better on the red one like yours. If you decide to get them from Brian be sure to check out my post on his thread. The lighter color and unique wood grain is super nice looking.

Looks good actually I don't remember noticing any issues. I am doing my thorough cleaning tomorrow and will post pics :)

Didn't have a ton of time to clean her today--- I was busy q'ing a chuckie and wings and watchin my 7 month old daughter. Got majority of the bowl cleaned up:

Steel wooled the lid damper vent and sanded the handle. Steel need to sand a lil more and seal it. Waxed the lid as well. Think I'm gonna leave her paint as is and not touch up.

got my ash catcher and hinged grate yesterday! got her all put back together and she is ready for her first cook with me tonight. have to stop by the store on the way home and see what catches my eye. i did finish sanding the handle and sealed it up with clear deck seal. I also hit the legs and triangle with a little steel wool/sos pad. cleaned up a bit, but i didnt want to spend too much time on it as i might just get replacement legs/triangle/wheels. i also took the wheels off and lubricated inside and where they rest on the triangle cause they were a lil squeaky. she's ready to cook with, it aint a fashion show! lol.

pics of her waiting for tonight-----

Holy cow that's a different Weber! It looks great right now, but if you end up getting some legs and a triangle that thing would be off the chain nice! Well those and some of Brian's handles. :)

Picked up some ribeyes on my way home and some veggies for my side dish. I will post details about the cook in the photo gallery section but just a few pics of her with charcoal burnin! She did great! I swear she turned a darker red when cooking? Maybe it was my imagination or cause it was getting dark lol.

Holy cow man, that changed that grill completely! Good choice on the legs there, it made her look new. Now a Brian O'Neal handle and that ole girl is ready for 100 or more years of cooking! :)

BTW, not to hijack, but do you let your coals get that ashy in the chimney before you dump or do you dump them earlier and let them ash over in the grill? I can't get all mine to fully light like that and get super hot.

No hijack At all RC--- I light my chimney on my gassers side burner so I cheat a little lol. I usually do wait until most coals are ashed up to the top and then dump em on the grate then give em a couple minutes to burn the. Pit my lid on to warm up the cooking grate for a few....

Yeah the legs maker her purdy! I will eventually get one of those nice handles from Brian . My prob is I have BBQ gloves that get black crud on my handles so they dirty easily lol.
