CL disappointment or Score?

So I bought a kettle on CL today. There was only one picture but it looked like an older 26 for 40 bucks. I texted the guy and he said it was 27 inches. Score, so I thought.

The kettle was in Reno NV which is a good 2.5 hours from here plus I have to cross the Sierra Nevada range which right now is being blasted with snow. Had a close friend that lives near there go get it for me. Ended up being a 22.5 but he got it for 25 bucks!

So here's the deal. I have no idea what this thing is. It has the old wood handles, has the one touch system with the ash catcher (not the pan) bucket, has a thermometer like the old SS performers in the handle and it has the lid holder like the performers or the current 26ers (not the add on one but the factory lid holder). So any way what did I end up with? Score or bust? I'll post the letter code when I get it and some pictures too.

Score, if it's in good shape Dustin.
It's a Master Touch.
edit, if it's black, it should look like this:

After seeing the siggy on your first post, not sure if you're pulling my leg or not.:p
But yes, a green MT would be even better!

You scored an MT Greenie !
Well done.

Dollars to donuts the seller "inherited" this great kettle.

No I'm not pulling your leg at all. I was disappointed when I found out that it was not a 26er but now I am pretty excited. It's green. Just got off the phone with my bud in Nevada that picked it up for me. He said the kettle had a small dent in the lid and needs a good cleaning but other than that it's in good shape. He sent a pic but I'll have to post on my computer since the phone won't do it. EZ is the code so 1998. Does this make sense that it would be a master touch?

Joe, 10-4 on the seller. He bought a house in Reno and the guy that sold the house left the kettle for him. Since this guy never cooked with charcoal he listed on CL. He advertised it as a Webber not a weber. When I called he said I was the only one that had called on it in over a week of being listed so I told my buddy that he might be able to get it cheaper. He offered 25 and the guy told him sold. Funny if I would have known ahead of time that it was a 22.5 I probably would have not even considered this one! Might have gotten a good one here :)

If I did this right then here is a pic. <a href="http://s988.photobucket.com/user/dflavell/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps8fbe9858.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af9/dflavell/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps8fbe9858.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo image_zps8fbe9858.jpg"/></a> I'll post more when I haul it home

Nice score. I have two, both from CL and the blue one was free but top dented in from a tailgating accident where it fell onto the top handle from a tailgate. The red one I got for $30 because the bottom vent wouldn't operate freely. I hammered out the lid dent on the blue one using a piece of 2x4 and a hammer. I removed the bottom vent on the red one and sanded all the rust and corrosion off the washers and off the 3-leaf-vent and reassembled. Both work great now.

Also I refinished the wood handles--the blue one on the pic here has refinished handles and the red one doesn't. I picked up some new grill grates at home depot for around $14 and they are like new.

Red and Blue Kettles.

Thanks for the replies. Okay so I finally got up to the Reno area and got the master touch. Knew it had some issues which it does but am still going to restore her. The biggest issue besides the dent in the lid with the paint missing is a really loose lid handle. The handle is welded on but it feels like it is one wrong twist from coming apart from the lid. There is a fair amount of rust around the loose handle so the rust may have got it. The up side is the ash sweep is free and is easy to use. The front wood handle is faded but you can still read the weber and the logo :) Looks like it may have turned over at some point in its life with the lid in the holder. Since the ding lines up perfectly with the holder bar and the bar is really really tweaked on one side.

Few questions: should I try to fix the lid or should I take the spare lid I got with my green CL performer and put the wood handles on and buy a modern replacement lid thermometer? I think the old school thermo is boss but the lid handle has me nervous. Could I match the green paint if I got the ding out?

Besides soap and water is there a better way to shine the bowl and lid?

Aluminum polish on the oxidized legs and ash catcher?

Sand and stain the wood handles?

Never restored a kettle that wasn't taken care of so any thoughts or tricks would be much appreciated.

Okay so got the old Master Touch all cleaned up. From this:

Chicken is on!

But it will take some getting used to. My main cooker is the 26er. On the second notch it cooks at about 400. This dude on the same settings

was a little hotter than I like. Had to make a few adjustments but it is fun to cook on! Thanks for lookin'
