Tried grilling chuck eye steaks for the first time.

The steaks had a great flavor. I was very pleased with the taste. But, they were too tough. I wanted to try them. Now that I've tried them, next time I will just opt for the more expensive cuts.

Did you grill to a med-rare?
I buy cheap steaks and grill to med-rare and they always come out good.
 
Looks good to me and I'd eat it 'cuz don't have that cut of meat here, sure would like to try it though, also our sweet taters are purple and white.

Darren they look great, and I got to tell you I end up with very tender meat, I cook indirect and then sear them to medium rare. Love em. Yours look superb
 
Thanks. I might try cooking them more rare, on your recommendations. But, I'm not sure I could do 130 though. I don't like a lot of red or pink.

best stick with "the more expensive cuts" then cuz chuck eyes are best at rare-medium rare...
 
Steaks look great and I am with the majority here at cooking to medium rare, tender all the time and really not that pink!
 
Okay, okay... you convinced me to try it again :). I have the day off work for Veteran's Day. So, I called around and found some chuck eye steaks at a small locally owned grocery. I washed these and put them in my "go to" marinade. I'll try pulling them off rare or medium rare. These steaks look a little better than the other ones. So, I just might not have gotten good ones for my first try. It's possible that these might come out good at 145 or 150. I know what I want when I pick out ribeyes or Porterhouse. But, I don't know what to look for with chuck-eye-steak.

The problem lies with you cooking them to a medium to medium well.
Chucks Eyes were given to us by The GREAT MEAT GODS to cook them rare to medium rare.... NO MORE:D
I'm shocked those chuckies weren't screaming OUT LOUD WITH MEGAPHONES to come off the grill at 125ºF

IF! you want to thoroughly enjoy Chuck Eyes AS chuck eyes, you GOTTA grill'em to rare - Medium rare...
And marination is absolutely Not Required!
