Chop-Chop Chops

Choir practice night for my wife, and since I'm the family cook, I have to plan a quick meal.

Wicker's marinaded pork chops (as used for my recent spatch chick) and some spears for me.
She had house made corn, & mashed potatoes.
I haven't eaten yet, but she (my toughest critic) gave two thumbs up!

No serious sears due to using a medium fire.
Half chimney of K-comp, and a small chunk of my special apple wood stash for a touch of smoke.
Cooked to 150 internal before resting.

Hope many of you aren't seeing this post, at least yet, due to tending a fire

Thanks for viewing!

I just returned from our garden having cut some spears and thought I'd surprise my wife using your bacon wrapped asparagus. I'm cooking steaks and tiny yukon gold potatoes which I picked up at our downtown market this afternoon. It's my birthday, but my wife has her final eight grade play production and won't be home til 9 and has been grading papers for ten hours today so I suggested we cook at home which is fine with me as I love to grill and we get better food at home than dining out She loves asparagus and also loves bacon.

How long did you leave the spears on the grill? I'm just starting to learn about veggie grilling.

First things first,
Happy Birthday Les!

I didn't really time the asparagus cook, I kind of go by the bacon getting done, and the spears being cooked to my liking.
Best guess 20 min. or so.
The spears can also be wrapped with bacon indivdually.
I like to cut the strips length wise when doing them this way. (thin bacon strips help for cooking to crisp)

I envy your asparagus patch!
Hope your cook goes well, and be sure to give your wife a big hug, sounds like she will need, and deserves one

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Jim and Bob. I'm enjoying a single malt and cigar, waiting for the bride, but may be forced inside. It's raining cats and dogs. Too bad as I have two strip steaks marinating in balsamic, olive oil, etc. and there's no way they'll be as good as on the grill. But if that all I have to worry about, life couldn't be better. Thanks for the quick reply. I'll report back tomorrow.

I love this forum.

Feel like I'm writing a blog. Ran out of steam last night and opted for cheese and crackers and will cook the steak and asparagus tonight, weather permitting.

Birthday dinner completed-only one day late. Strip steaks marinated in balsamic, olive oil, and a few spices, potatoes cooked in the oven and fresh asparagus spears wrapped in prosciutto (the bacon we had was a bit to thick to use). Wonderful meal. Thanks for every ones help. Here are some pics, I hope.

Thanks for all the asparagus pics. I broke in my new WSM conversion yesterday with burgers and bacon wrapped asparagus. The asparagus was a huge hit, my family has named it "asparagon". Sorry, no pics.

Congrats on a wonderful looking meal Les!!
And for the terrific pics!!

I really like the spears with prosciutto best, but I have prosciutto tastes, and a bacon pocketbook

PS: I like the name, asparagon, Craig!

Bob

After buying the prosciutto at Kroger yesterday I realize I also have I also have a bacon pocketbook. Luckily my wife thinks bacon is one of the major food groups.
