Hey guys,
This is only my second post so far, but expect a nice thread later on today showing all the things ive made on my WSM so far.

Anyways, i drove all around town to find the cheapest Kingsford blue bag charcoal and i think i have found it.
My local Walmart has a deal for 2 - 15lb for $8 . Sadly, the manager told me they have never had them in stock and dont plan to. So i dont count this as a deal if its never available. That said, their next best deal is 2 - 12lb for $15 . Not a bad deal.
My local Target doesnt have twin packs, just singles. They have single bags for $11 for 15lbs.
My local Lowes and Home Depot didnt have any twin packs at the time. Single bag of 20lbs for $15
Local Best Buy Market sells single 7lb bags for $9. Ouch

And the winner is.... Food Maxx. For 2 weeks ive been getting my charcoal there. When my next check comes, ill be buying as much as i can afford. They have 3 options: 1) 2 - 15lb bags for $13 , 2) 2 - 18lb bags for $13 , and my favorite, 3) 2 - 20lb bags for $13.

If you cook at least 4-5 times a week on the grill like i do, itll be a good investment to drive around and find the cheapest place for you.

2-3x per year the big box stores will do 2-20 or 2-18.6 (the new size) bags for $9 or $10. Labor day, memorial day, July 4 more or less

What Dave said. If you have a significant other, explain to them now that when the charcoal goes on sale at those holidays, it will save you a bunch of money in the long run to stock up! My wife went into the shed and saw 6 twin-packs (in addition to the twin-pack on the back patio) and nearly flipped. She still doesn't like that we've got about 225 lbs of charcoal just sitting around, but she at least understands.

FWIW, I'll use three of those twin-packs for cub scout events in the next two months. If you won't be going through it that quick, maybe you'll only need 2 or 3 packs at a time. At Memorial Day and July 4th, I usually only get a couple packs. Labor day I stock up for the winter.

This was the first year that I tried to pick up what I thought might last me an entire year. I bought 20 double bags. Very odd to spend $200 in one pop, but I likely would go through that in a year and spend $400+ on it. We'll see how long it lasts and then I'll adjust accordingly next year.

Right now I have 21 twin pack 18.6 bags left in the garage that I got at Home Depots 2 for $9.95 sale last Memorial Day. That will hold me over until probably next Labor day or at least a year. I won't use much during the winter we mostly use the gassers except for the holiday turkeys or if I just have to smoke something. The summer fire restrictions limit us to the gassers usually for a couple of months. So this year I didn't use as much.
So if you can wait until Memorial day you can really save some money because it's about half price.
