Canada day pork shoulder

Hey folks,

Thought I'd share the 5 lb pork shoulder I did up for a few people on Canada day. Nothing really fancy about the cook, just like every other butt on here :)

I had some Meathead's Memphis Dust left over, so I used that as my rub. Decided to use the Big Steel Keg instead of the WSM today because I only realised in the morning that I didn't have enough briquettes for the cook in the WSM, so lump in the BSK it was. (Nothing's open on Canada day to buy more)

Quite a bit of charcoal on the BSK - just so I wouldn't have to refuel during the cook

Temperature was holding really well

Then came the Texas crutch. The weather wasn't really cooperating so I wanted to push through the stall as fast as possible..

Then, this happened :(

Which in turn, made this happen

I made a simple slaw, and some sauce to go along with the pork.. Good eats..

Despite the weather, it was a good day, especially for eating pork!

Happy grilling fellers..

Chris, good looking pulled pork! What kind of wireless temp are you using? I have a ET-733 but would love the capability of monitoring temps on my phone.
Thanks, and happy Canada Day!

Thanks,

That's an iGrill2, and I highly recommend it!

You can kind of see it in the third or fourth pic. I have it in a zip loc bag, just so it didn't get wet during the cook.

The app on the phone is great, much better than using a stand alone device like a Maverick in my opinion. And your phone is always in your pocket, so it's convenient. It's a bluetooth connection - so you'll get about 100' range. Plenty for me anywhere in my house to monitor the back yard. You can use 4 probes, or if you have more than one iGrill - your phone can connect to them (if you have some serious cooking going on).

They often go on sale as well, so keep checking the site if you're looking to get it a little cheaper.

I also recommend the Igrill2. I don't quite get the 100 foot range Chris does but it meets my needs quite well.

Pork looks good.....but what's that stuff falling from the sky? I've heard tell of such a substance from old timers here in California.... :)

Great looking pork and belated Happy Canada Day from this Canadian ex-pat to you (I was born and raised in Winnipeg and lived many years in Vancouver).
