Butt Cook for a Friend in Need

Glenn W

Had a friend that is an electrician and owns his own business that got burnt really bad due to being shocked!

Thought I would do some butts for them because they can eat on that for awhile. Was running late so I couldn't get pulled pics, sorry!

Anyway these were sooooo good, ya know the cook gets to sample the bark and stuff!

That is truly a thing of beauty. Thanks for sharing the pics with us, and very kind of you to do that for them.

Thanks

Glenn, you set a great example for all of us. Pray tell, what rub did you use on these great looking butts. I have a three butt smoke set for tomorrow night, and I'm biased to smoke simply, but might be persuaded to use a rub that looks this great. Thanks, and thanks for being so kind.

I used this for the rub:

Chris Lilly's Six-Time World Championship Pork Shoulder Rub
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup paprika
1/3 cup garlic salt
1/3 cup kosher salt
1 Tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon black pepper
Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly.

Did not use oregano
Cut Paprika in half
Tripled the Chili powder

I used this for the injection:

Chris Lilly's Six-Time World Championship Pork Shoulder Injection
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3/4 cup apple juice
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup table salt
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
Combine all ingredients and stir until sugar and salt are dissolved.

I cut the salt in half. I used 3 fist size apple and 3 fist size maple chunks all split in half! Mixed 6 in the cc and put the rest on top or near the lit.

Wow Glen,
Those look fantastic. Sorry about your friend, Electrical burns are the worst. That PP will help him in his recovery
though. Hope you saved him some that Bark.
How long did it take you to make those beauties?

How long did it take you to make those beauties?

The 8lb one took 12hrs and the 9lb took 14 hrs from the time the cooker hit 200. Kept at 225 so I could get the timing right and not have to stay up so late to start them. I usually go 250 on butts.

Thanks all for the nice comments
